Developing the Methods Map

Patrick Brindle, our Research Methods editor in the UK has been leading on the development of the ontology that will underpin the product, and will be visualised in the Methods Map feature that we are designing at the moment.

Patrick has just received a group of reviews back from some of our key authors on the latest version of the taxonomy which currently holds approx 4,000 research methods terms, concepts and people! It has been a huge project to compile, something that we have been working on for the last 12 months, and something that we are very proud of. The A-heads are:

  • Philosophies and Concepts
  • Literature Search and Review
  • Research Design
  • Quantitative Research Design
  • Qualitative Research Design
  • Quantitative Data Collection
  • Qualitative Data Collection
  • Quantitative Data Analysis
  • Qualitative Data Analysis

The next step for us is to to tag all of the content within the product with the relevant terms from this taxonomy, and iFactory are working on designs for the Methods Map which will allow you to move between related terms and concepts.

Lots to do!
