Hi,
I have been asked to be the Principle Investigator on a project: Evaluating a program for adolescent girls in a juvenile detention facility. This is my first professional evaluation and I was wondering if other have been a PI...what are the expectations? We have focus groups planned for December, but other than that...It is not clear to me what my role is.....
If you are doing this at an academic institution, the PI is the person who completes all the paperwork to get the Institutional Reveiw Board (IRB) approval before implementing. If you were not considering publishing your findings later, that might not be an issue for evaluations that are part of your regular job, but you said that you are dealing with minors and they are in a particularly vulnerable setting. This is a big deal with IRB committees and would probably require a full IRB review.
Hi Johanna,
Thank you for your feedback. We have already submitted paperwork to HSC and have been approved...that's all set...I was looking to know all of the steps that this role entails so that I don't miss anything....
I have only been minimally involved in this type of project so I wasn't sure what the expectations were....
Hi Susan, I am a librarian and dissertation chair who have had some EdD students do program evaluations so I cannot speak to your specific circumstance, but the model we tend to use in educational settings is Stufflebeam's CIPP Model (Content, Input, Process, and Product). Stufflebeam has a website with his evaluation checklist that you may find helpful -- http://www.wmich.edu/evalctr/checklists/cippchecklist.htm The nice thing about this model is you can for a needs assessment, formation evaluation of a program, or a smmative assessment without being required to complete all the steps.
