Journals

The most scholarly journals today are research journals, in that each showcases peer-reviewed research in their chosen specialised discipline. As such, an intelligent search can reveal writing about research methods in just about any scholarly journal if one knows where and how to look. Indeed, most discipline-based journals across the social sciences are happy to include methods-focused articles as part of their output.

Moreover, part of the skill of reading a research paper lies in being able to grasp the methods used by a paper’s author and being able to critically evaluate such methods in terms of the research goals of research project being discussed.

There are also a number of journals that are devoted almost solely to matters methodological, and nearly all of these can be accessed online if you or your university has the right password for free online access:
