Awful title (tells you virtually nothing about the argument), obscure journal... but this was a great article. Written with a Wittgensteinian sort of precision, and extremely clear and accessible, this is a fascinating introdcution to the endless de…

A little bit about me

I'm SAGE's PR Manager and am part of the SAGE crew that set up Methodspace. I'm a bit of a social network geek, having written a dissertation all about how people use networks to communicate for a Public Relations Diploma I completed a couple of years ago.

Making Methodspace as user friendly and community-focussed as possible is something I am very committed to, so if you have comments about the site, get in touch!

Informing Public Policy: new agendas for social research

Last week I was one of some 190+ attendees at the Informing Public Policy conference: a two day event organized by NatCen and the LSE, and sponsored by SAGE.

The conference looked back at the role of social research over the last 100 years, and importantly what impact it has had in contributing to social policy. Speakers looked at healthcare, education, criminology and more, examining some of the key contributors and the changes in approach. Panelists also looked at how social researc… Continue

Informing Public Policy: places still available

SAGE are proud sponsors of an upcoming two-day event that NatCen and the LSE are arranging.

Thought for the day:

“[O]ver-theorization is an ever present danger given that many social science disciplines, I believe, live in fear of being discovered, like the fabled emperor, without any clothes…”

Why interview? (By David Silverman)*

Daivd Silverman has kindly allowed me to re-post a blog entry he wrote for SAGE last year.

Why Interview?
David Silverman - Goldsmiths College, University of London, UK

Instead of looking, listening and reading, the majority of contemporary qualitative researchers prefer to select a small group of individuals to interview or to place in focus groups. In this sense, by assembling a specific research sample, linked only… Continue

Hi there thanks for your message. I have added a general introduction to our events and we'll add the individual ones in time (it will take a bit of dedicated time to do that!). I think this is a great vehicle for promiting events like training and like the set up that brings up events by date but it is difficult if like us you run a series of events and also offer bespoke training which isn't date bound. So I wondered about having a few sponsors of your events/training space who offer similar and are the key orgs doing this, for example you could have NatCen Learning, Surrey's training arm, NCRM, the SRA all as associate sites or something similar? Just a thought, Kandy
