Researchers, practitioners, teachers and students interested in statistics across Europe are invited to attend a free introductory webinar to better understand how to access and use data from Eurostat.

Eurostat is the statistical office of the European Union. Its task is to provide EU institutions and Member States with statistics at European level that enable comparisons between countries and regions. Today Eurostat offers a range of important and interesting data available to researchers and teachers, governments, businesses, journalists and the public.

Eurostat produces a large number of open, statistical databases harmonised across countries covering a wide range of socio-economic topics including demography, movement of people, health, education and development across Europe. This webinar explains how the open data can be located, browsed and extracted, and the tools and services available.

The role of metadata in data collection, production and dissemination at national and European level will also be presented during this webinar, and Statistics Explained, the new encyclopaedia of EU statistics will be shown.

Eurostat also produces microdata. Access to microdata is restricted to authorised researchers only, but the webinar will outline how institutions can apply for access to these datasets for research purposes.

The webinar will consist of a 40 minute presentation followed by 20 minutes for demonstrations and questions and will be presented by Fernando Morente
