    Hi there,

My probationary PhD is on the practice of Amazonian Shamanism in Great Britain.

Along with a few other methodologies I have decided to include an element of auto-ethnography too.

I was hoping people could use this thread to share views and advice on auto-ethnography.

    Such as:

how does auto-ethnography differ from journal writing

how do you prevent bias/be objective

what are the pitfalls to be aware of

    what to/not to include

any links to good articles on the subject

    Best wishes,

    Kerry

I wrote an exploratory piece about my experiences using auto-ethnography which addresses some of your questions here, as well as looking at different forms of ethnography and autoethnography.  There is a very brief summary available at http://eprints.nuim.ie/2597/1/JC__Autoethnogr.pdf and the full text was published last June as ‘Researching Workplace Spiritualization Through Auto/ethnography’ in the Journal of Management, Spirituality & Religion (Vol 8, No 2 pp: 143-164)

    Hope this helps

Very best of luck with your doctoral project.

    John.
