    I have a quick question.

I have completed the first draft of my research methods chapter for master’s dissertation and it was my first time in the field participating and observing life as it unfolds in one of Johannesburg city’s popular public space. After reflection on the way I went about compiling, collecting, capturing and analysing ethnographic data in the field, and considering the contested nature of the method in social science, when does one become “an ethnographer”? or rather, what qualifies a researcher to be an ethnographer?
