I am doing a PhD thesis at Zagreb University School of Medicine, and a part of my thesis is a qualitative research exploring the role of informal networks in promoting international mobility of young medical scientists in Croatia. I use the Framework approach to analysis and I found the book „Qualitative Research Practice: A Guide for Social Science Students and Researchers“ very helpful. However, even after repeated reading of the book I still have a concern regarding the inter-rater reliability. My question is: does a second analyst have to independantly index (label, tag) the interview transcripts? If yes, how this should be compared with the indexing done by the first analyst, i.e. how the inter-rater reliability should be calculated based on the two sets of indexed transcripts? If no, how can I positively answer to the question posed on the p. 272 of the „Qualitative Research Practice“ book: “Were classifications, typologies confirmed by multiple assessment?“.
