what is the danger of having “phrases” as codes….for instance, I couldn’t make my codes short….they are kind of “phrases” like the following… Deciding to become independent, Wishing one’s vision back, Not feeling as incapable, Capable of doing “everything” provided accommodating conditions ….
Hi, these are exactly the kind of codes I ended up with. To me, this seemed to fit well with Charmaz’s idea of coding for actions, and with the idea of looking for process in the data. My themes are similarly labelled, and none of my supervisors has complained. I think the main thing is making sure each code represents a discrete idea, and that the layers of complexity within it have been explored.
