Good afternoon, I am interested to learn if anyone has conducted research using the Psychosocial Adjustment to Illness (PAIS) (Derogatis, 1986)?

If so, were comparisons drawn between current performance of adjustment and pre-injury performance of adjustment? Is it necessary to draw comparison pre and post? or can one just use the PAIS at one point and time to inform psychosocial adjustment?

It does seem unusual to use it pre and post as sometimes one may not realise that they are going to encounter an illness where they need to adjust to? E.g. brain injury? I found a study by Kendall and Terry (2008) were they did comment on using the PAIS at 2 time points.

I have read a number of studies that have used it at one point only but I eager to learn if anyone has conducted it at more than one time point? I would also be delighted to read any experience or comments other researchers may have with using this scale?

    With thanks, Irene
