Quantitative or qualitative methodology?

I am trying to decide whether I should use a qualitative methodology or quantitative for my research project. I wanted to use a survey with closed ended questions and then quantify them. While if I do qualitative I have to use open ended questions and do interviews, etc. to collect the data. Is there a substantial benefit to using the qualitative methodology?
