I wish to contend that one individual in an organisation can provide a valid insight into the wider organisation perspective. I believe that the single actor’s perception is socially derived and therefore substantially picked up from others and thus worthy of study in ways that may be indicative of wider social organisation. This suggests to me that when I talk with respondents, the data gathered may not only represent the unique meaning given by the individual but also wider social phenomena that influenced the respondents’ perceptions and actions. What do others think and do you know of any literature that may support my contention?
