I would be interested to know what people think about using (pseudo) names or not in vignettes, it doesn’t seem to be much discussed in the literature: I am thinking through the differences in getting respondents to talk about classroom vignettes that use ‘Terry came into the classroom …’ or ‘The pupil came into the classroom’ : it sounds perhaps trivial but is perhaps important in terms of name might make respondents identify the vignette with a particular pupil they know (not necessarily useful) but absence of names make them seem less real and perhaps engage the respondent less? I am going for names that are gender-less like Terry if I do – any thoughts?
