Usually , in sociology people use ethnography to study the culture. Moreover, Shutz has also recommended phenomenology as a method to be used in sociology. Grounded theory is also used. These methods are also used in other social science researches, so , there is no difference in methods themselves.

A method is tested on the basis of its rigor, consistency and validity of its conclusions. So any method of which the use is valid in a given situation , can be used.
