I’m preparing my dissertation proposal and would like to use photographs as a data collection tool, as well as for photo elicitation interviews, to understand identity changes through transition in first year college students. I thought about using a social media app, such as Instagram, to collect photos in an unobtrusive way, but am wondering if there are other options. Most of the literature I have read is older, including giving disposable cameras to participants, along with a notebook to log their photos. Social media photo sharing apps seem to be so much more useful due to their date/time stamp, and the built in log, plus the ability to tag and sort.
Does anyone use a particular app or tool to collect photographs from research participants as data?
