• Dear Mr Gorard, I could not agree more when you say in your paper “the account of one case study can properly involve numbers”. In practice, a single case study yielding a first-person narrative of an episode of experience yields a vast number of data that can be quantitatively analysed then. In practice also, in action-research or in inquiries into social phenomena occurring within organisations, for instance, the qualitative data stemming from observation can also be quantified to set things into a perspective that actors can understand and build upon to further analyse their own condition or practices.
