The key issue is not the overall sample size but of the size of the smallest cell in any comparison. Why not give them the sampling chapter in my 2013 Research Design book.?

Thank you stephen….one of my ph.D. students is doing her study on Facebook, she has studied facebook pages on only 100 users, the division of 100 users is also not justified….in my view this sample is very less for Ph.D. and also for qualitative study…could you please suggest….what number of user she should include in her Ph.D. study….thanks

The same as for any other kind of research. There are no specific rules for what you call ‘qualitative’ research. So, all things being equal, the larger the better.

What should be the ideal sample size for qualitative research?
Thank you,
Sincerely, -
We discuss any kind of research. Ask away. But recall that your ‘viewpoint’ makes no difference to the answers about design issues such as sampling.

Hello everyone! Im new to this site….Im working on a PhD and hoping to asl some questions about “sampling” – from a constructivist grounded theory view point….Dos this sub group look at/discuss qualitative and quantitative research? THANKS

Here is a fuller and more complete version. This is mostly about what not to do in analysis.

Imagine being able to fllick a setting on software like SPSS, so that all menu options and all processes based on the user having a complete random sample disappeared. What remained, plus a few indices and effect size calculations, would be a good indication of what real-life work with numbers ought to be like. It would include frequencies, tables,[Read more]

Design seems to be the ‘Cinderella’ of research methods. Yet good prior design makes warrants firmer, analyses simpler, and research easier to comprehend. I am happy to discuss these issues, solve practical problems, and will regularly upload resources and new materials.
To start with, I offer the first chapter of my 2013 SAGE book on Research D[Read more]
