Teaching & Facilitating Online: Resources from e/merge Africa

Over the years I have had the pleasure of collaborating with e/merge Africa, a broad network of researchers and educators based at the University of Cape Town Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching. Given the current needs in regard to e-learning and remote work, the e/merge newsletter caught my attention. I am sharing some events here, and hope you will find them useful and interesting.

Presenter: Ralitsa Diana Debrah, Design Educator and Researcher, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana & Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), South Africa.

Date and Time:  Wednesday 3 June 2020; 3:00 pm SAST/ 1:00pm Ghana time, 9 am EST

Description:  EdTech in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Afrika is emerging. Many HEIs systems have been designed for conventional pedagogies with fewer Online Learning Programs. The COVID -19 Pandemic has made an impact on education, creating a crisis situation in HEIs, and compelling learners and educators to work remotely.  In this webinar we will discuss the challenges and opportunities in the phase of disruption, reflecting on case scenarios from Ghana and other parts of Afrika. In addition, we will discuss strategies to design for online education as we prepare for the post-pandemic era (the new normal) for equitable access to quality higher education in our various contexts.

Registration: Once registration is done in this form you are automatically taken to a short additional Zoom registration. Please complete both.

Designing Online Conferences

Given the dispersed membership and global interest, e/merge Africa was an early adopter for online conferences. I've appreciated the ways they mix synchronous and asynchronous interactions over multiple days. Here are some resources related to designing online conferences:
