In this taped debate from the United Kingdom’s Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Festival of Social Science, Katie Metzler, head of methods innovation at SAGE Publishing, moderates a panel that includes Maria Fasli, director of the Institute for Analytics and Data Science at the University of Essex; Slava Mikhaylov, professor of public policy and data science at the University of Essex;, Jonathan Gray, lecturer in critical infrastructure studies at Kings College London; and Ian Mulvany, head of product innovation at SAGE. They discuss how the academic community, could better utilize big data for optimum impact in a world where examples of big data being used to maximize profit and cause harm are making headlines around the world.
