Researching the Generations

The Methodspace focus for July 2022 will be on engaging with participants of all ages, from young children to the frail elderly. We will explore how researchers:

  • Choose appropriate methodological approaches for studying children, youth, and/or elder participants.

  • Adapt methods for intergenerational research, including studies with parents and children/youth or members of a community.

  • Explore partnerships with young or older co-researchers.

Mentors in Residence for July 2022

This month’s Mentors in Residence will be SAGE authors Michelle O’Reilly and Jessica Lester. Jessica and Michelle are co-authors of Applied Conversation Analysis: Social Interaction in Institutional Settings. They have written numerous books and articles with other co-authors that delve into methods for studying children and adolescents, as well as books about doing research online. You will see a video interview with them, and find their posts and suggested readings on Methodspace throughout the month.

Guest Contributors

Guest contributors will include Emma Geen, Matthew Lariviere, and Helen Manchester from the Ageing Futures Research group, prolific SAGE author and former Mentor in Residence Maria Lahman, former Mentor in Residence Sharon Ravitch and a group of youth participants, creative researcher Louise Couceiro, Sara Johnson, and more.
