  • Doing Qualitative Research
    Professor John Creswell analyzes the characteristics of qualitative research and the qualitative researcher. He explains that good qualitative researchers tend to look at the big picture, notice details, and write a lot. He discusses how these characteristics tie into qualitative research.   • Making Short-Term Research Projects a Success: Navigating the Unique Challenges of Doing Research With Marginalized Communities on a Tight Timeline

    This case explores the unique challenges of adapting the design and implementation of a research study on a vulnerable, marginalized population to a tight timeline, in response to granting parameters. It examines not only the limitations but also the strengths of conducting a short-term study on a marginalized community—in this case, Somali-Canadian youths navigating the education system. The article discusses practical challenges, such as recruiting participants and taking cultural and gender sensitivities into account, despite time constraints, emphasizing the importance of building community relationships at an early stage of the research process. The article also explores the impact of teamwork in this context and discusses the importance of adapting nimbly, but thoughtfully, to changes in research design and implementation.
